For many in the neurodivergent community—whether that means being on the autism spectrum, having ADHD, sensory processing sensitivities, or other neurodivergent conditions—brushing teeth can be more challenging than most people realize. Sensory aversions, struggling with motivation to brush for 2 minutes, or motor skill limitations can turn toothbrushing into a major struggle. Add mobility challenges into the mix caused by, for example, cerebral palsy or ALS, and something as seemingly simple as oral care can feel daunting. Thankfully, solutions like autobrush are making it easier—and more comfortable—for adults and children to maintain a healthy smile.
I Have Sensory Issues 🙅🏻♂️
-
Quick and Gentle
Traditional toothbrushes involve bristles that can feel harsh against the gums or require a level of manual dexterity that some individuals may find overstimulating. In contrast, autobrush cleans all teeth simultaneously in just 30 seconds, reducing the back-and-forth motion that might cause sensory overload. -
Foam Toothpaste
For autistic individuals or those sensitive to certain textures, the foaming toothpaste is a great option for those averse to the viscuous toothpaste normally found in the store or dentist's office. We have also received a huge thumbs up for the non-mint flavored toothpaste selection from our autistic customer base for similar reasons!
Review by Ines:
"As an autistic adult with sensory issues, my teeth went neglected for most of my. Getting into the rhythm of brushing was incredibly difficult due to things such as time, taste, and mouthfeel.
The Autobrush has changed all of this in mere seconds since I first used it. The brush head is comfortable, well made, and simple to use, as is the main unit, making brushing a breeze, especially since it takes far less time than regular brushes. I did buy it during their black friday sale, but I’d been looking at it for some time before that, and fully believe that it’s worth the money paid for it.
I Struggle With Attention or Motivation 🦋
A major benefit—especially for kids and adults with ADHD or anyone who has trouble focusing—is the time factor. Even those going through depressive episodes and struggling with their hygiene needs, a brush that takes a quarter of the time of a conventional brush can have an enormous impact on their lives.
By cleaning multiple surfaces at once, it helps ensure thorough cleaning without stretching attention spans to the limit or making the task feel daunting.
Review by Timothy:
"My daughter has had a hard time focusing for two minutes to give her teeth a quality brushing so this brushing all her teeth in 30 seconds is a complete game changer. The 6-8 year old brush head fits perfectly and she loves the strawberry flavored toothpaste foam (tastes like candy). I'm so happy to skip the fight at bedtime and before school now!"
I Have Limited Mobility 🧑🏻🦼➡️
-
Minimal Dexterity Required
For individuals who struggle with hand coordination or range of motion, autobrush does most of the work. The mouthpiece just needs to be placed in position and moved side-to-side in a figure-8 shape, making personal oral care simpler and more independent. -
Reduced Reliance on Caregivers
This design can be especially empowering for adults who want greater control over their hygiene routine without depending on someone else for assistance.
Review by Phyllis:
"Our daughter has mild cerebral palsy and had difficulty using a regular toothbrush. Our dentist suggested the autobrush and I immediately noticed after she brushed that there was food and discoloration on the brush. That was great because I knew the brush was doing it’s job. It’s easy for little hands or people with physical difficulties to thoroughly brush since the brush is held between your teeth and it doesn’t require alot of change of direction like regular brushing.
We also got the autobrush toothpaste and that made a big difference because it’s a foam and dissolves easily. Winners all round!"
